Jira vs UnaTask
We are not going to tell you to move your engineering backlog off Jira. This page is about everyone else, who never wanted a backlog in the first place.
Where Jira is good
Jira is the standard for software teams for good reasons. Sprints, epics, workflows that enforce how work moves, issue types, permission schemes, and reporting that satisfies an audit. If you ship software with more than a handful of engineers, it does a job almost nothing else does properly, and switching away is rarely the right call.
Where UnaTask fits better
The trouble is what happens to the people next to it. Marketing, design, ops and founders get handed a Jira seat and an issue type, and it never fits, so they quietly move back to a spreadsheet and a group chat. UnaTask is for those people: tasks on a calendar with real hours, dependencies you can see, booking links, meeting notes that become tasks. Engineering keeps Jira. Everyone else gets a tool built for how they actually work, and the two can sit side by side.
Side by side
| Feature | UnaTask | Jira |
|---|---|---|
| Time blocking on a calendar | Visual time blocking you drive, drag tasks onto real slots | No calendar planning, it is a tracker |
| Sprints, epics and workflows | No sprints, projects and dependencies instead | Yes, and the deepest in the category |
| Usable by non technical teammates | Built for it, nothing to learn first | Steep, and often resented outside engineering |
| Booking links | Booking links that respect your focus blocks | No |
| Meetings → tasks | A notetaker turns meetings into assigned tasks | Through integrations |
| Link pull requests to work | Yes, with live status and an on merge action | Yes, deep native integration |
| Price | Free on your own, then €10 per seat for Team, every feature included | Free up to 10 users; roughly $8 Standard and $15 Premium per user per month on annual billing |
Questions people ask
Is UnaTask a Jira replacement?
For engineering, no, and we would not pretend otherwise. For the marketing, design and operations people who were given a Jira login and never got on with it, yes.
How is UnaTask different from Jira?
Jira tracks the state of work in great detail. UnaTask plans when work happens, on a calendar, by the hour. One is a system of record, the other is a plan for the week.
Can we use UnaTask alongside Jira?
That is the usual arrangement. Engineering stays in Jira, everyone else plans in UnaTask, and pull requests can still be linked to UnaTask tasks so the two sides can see each other.
Is UnaTask simpler than Jira?
Considerably, and on purpose. There are no permission schemes to design and no workflow states to model. That is a loss if you need those things and a relief if you never did.
